FROSTBURG — For the second time this season, Frostburg State’s total offense surpassed 500 yards.Also, the Bobcats defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 49-16 at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday to start the season 5-0 for the first time in three years.
On the first play from scrimmage, Myles Fulton connected with Jordan Marcucci for 17 yards, deep into Wesleyan (0-4, 0-3 MEC) territory.Owen Doyle scored from two yards out as a result of it.The subsequent drive for Frostburg put the Bobcats in a fourth-and-one scenario on their own 31.Sean Aaron needed a yard, but he got two, and the chains moved.
Frostburg took over at Wesleyan’s 20 and scored another touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter.After he broke two tackles from the 15-man position, Fulton scored on a keeper.Fulton finished with 15 of 23 passes completed for 249 yards, three touchdowns, and one pick.
Playing against the best teams
Halfway through the quarter, Wesleyan took over near midfield and needed just three plays to score its first points.Nathan Payne found Immanuel Scott on a slant for a 26-yard touchdown.Wylan Harich stopped the extra point to keep the score at 21–6.
Fulton found Amari N’namdi-Hall crossing the Wesleyan 10 in 28 yards after Frostburg took over as commander.N’namdi-Hall lead the Bobcats with six catches for 81 yards.Doyle shattered the plane on the next play as he was stretching for the goal line.
He finished with 120 yards and two scores on nine carries.”He runs hard, and good luck to anyone trying to tackle him,” Fulton said. With ten tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three tackles for loss, Jaylen Boyd led the Bobcat defensive line.
Yasir Holmes finished with six tackles, including two for loss, and 2.5 sacks. The Bobcats ended up with 17 penalties for 144 yards, while Wesleyan was given 11 for 104 yards. Raphael Manning led Wesleyan with 80 yards rushing on 16 carries.
To end the season, Frostburg plays a string of games against the best teams in the MEC.In the last six weeks, the Bobcats, who are now ranked second in the conference, will play the other three clubs. They begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Glenville State (2-3, 2-1 MEC). Boyd said, “We have a lot of veteran guys who have been here before.”
