ASHFORD, WA- Army special forces have joined the hunt for two missing Navy aviators, intensifying the search. Their plane crashed Tuesday in a densely forested area east of Mount Rainier, leaving the aviators unaccounted for.
The wreckage of the two-person fighter jet was found by authorities at 6,000 feet in the air. Rescuers find it impossible to get to the place on foot due to the tough terrain.
Whether the crew ejected from the aircraft prior to the disaster has not yet been verified by investigators. It is possible that the pilots are still within the wreckage.
The Army force conducting the search contributes technical skills necessary to traverse the steep and isolated terrain, as well as experience in mountaineering and high angle rescue.
