LOS ANGELES: According to federal authorities, Grammy-winning musician Lil Durk was detained on suspicion of ordering the 2022 murder of a rival while serving as the head of the Chicago-based rap group Only the Family.
According to a federal complaint, Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested Thursday near an airport where he was scheduled to board a flight departing the United States.
Lil Durk Made His First Appearance In Federal Court
A plea for a statement from the artist’s defense lawyer was not immediately answered. A spokesperson for the office of U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, where the accusations have been filed, said Lil Durk made his first appearance in federal court in the Southern District of Florida on Friday.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in federal court in Los Angeles in the upcoming weeks. Lil Durk, 32, was the defendant who was first named as Co-Conspirator 1 in an indictment of 5 other suspects accused of a 2022 murder that was made public on October 17.
The Defendants Followed Him And Opened fire
Prosecutors claim that the intended aim was a man named T.B., whom Lil Durk wanted to be killed. According to the indictment, the five other defendants discovered that T.B. was residing in Los Angeles, followed him there, and opened fire, even using a fully automatic weapon, but instead murdered an acquaintance known as S.R.
According to the complaint, the conflict arose from an altercation in a nightclub in Atlanta in November 2020 in which one of T.B.’s associates shot and murdered another man, and Lil Durk killed T.B. in retaliation.
According to the accusation, it was one of several bounties Lil Durk imposed on individuals he wished to have killed. Lil Durk’s song “All My Life” earned him the 2024 Grammy for the Best Melodic Rap Performance. His social media accounts indicate that on October 18, he published his eighth studio album.
