Four people went missing after their recreational crabbing boat capsized outside Bodega Bay, some 70 miles north of San Francisco, a day earlier, and a broad search for them began on Sunday. Two more people from the ship have been located; one is dead and the other is stable.
The U.S. Coast Guard reports that three adults and an equal number of children were on board the 21-foot white Bayliner when it departed Westside Marina at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday. Four hours was the estimated time of its return.
Sheriff started hunt at night
Sheriff’s deputies from Sonoma County join other law enforcement agencies on Sunday in their hunt for boaters who went missing after their vessel capsized off the coast by Bodega Bay the day before. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office started the hunt as the night went on.
According to the authorities, the last known location of the vessel was found near Carmet Beach via a mobile ping. Later, debris from the boat was found near the shore.
Since then, several agencies have joined the search and rescue effort, including U.S. Coast Guard stations in Humboldt Bay, Bodega Bay, San Francisco, and Sacramento. As planes and drones search from the air, the Air Force’s 129th Rescue Wing, Civil Air Patrol, and other local agencies are also searching the seas.
