YORK: In the York City Hall parking lot, six tents are erected. There are homeless individuals sleeping there. Michael Helfrich, Mayor of York, said it’s alright. He is reacting to a national epidemic of homelessness that affects both large and small communities. “The mayor is in our corner,” Mark Roach declared. Among those sleeping in the tents are him and his spouse.
Increase in homeless population
There are other persons in the parking lot, including Rachel Ringley. “I am truly grateful for the mayor’s actions, which eliminate the need for us to constantly transport our possessions. In fact, we have closed containers, and he lets us set up maintain the tents so that we don’t get drenched when it rains.
A homeless advocacy group called Friends and Neighbors of Pennsylvania claims that since 2019, York’s homeless population has increased. The main issue is the scarcity of reasonably priced houses.
In York County, the expected number of homeless individuals is 750. Helfrich stated that he is unsure of how long the tents will be permitted. When the temperature drops, several of the residents are concerned about where they will go.
