A Person Of Interest Is Being Held After An Indiana Soldier Was Discovered Dead In Missouri

FORT LEONARD WOOD: Missouri has discovered the body of a U.S. Army soldier who went missing from northeast Indiana. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Army is now conducting an investigation. According to Army officials from Ft. Leonard Wood, who spoke to NewsNation affiliate KTVI, said they are looking into her death as a homicide and have detained a person of interest.

According to Army officials, a person of particular interest who was wanted for interrogation has been located and arrested. However, no other information regarding the person of relevance was revealed.

After failing to appear for training at Fort Leonard Wood in southern Missouri on Monday morning, Sergeant Sarah Roque, aged 23, of Ligonier, Indiana, was reported missing. Roque’s death was verified by Fort Leonard Wood officials on Tuesday.

At Fort Leonard Wood, with the 5th Engineer Battalion, the 23-year-old worked as a mine dog handler and bridge crew member after enlisting in the Army in 2020.

In addition to the Army Service Ribbon, Roque had previously received the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Her Passing Has Left A Huge Gap

According to Army officials’ Facebook post, Roque was a soldier, friend, sister, and daughter. “The family, friends, and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Roque are deeply disturbed by this devastating grief, and we extend our deepest condolences to them,” said Maj. Gen.

The circumstances encompassing Sergeant Roque’s death are being investigated by the Army Criminal Investigation Division. No further details were immediately given, and their inquiry is still underway.

Sergeant Roque Received Numerous Honors

On Tuesday, U.S. Congressional representative Mark Alford (MO-04) issued the following statement regarding Sergeant Sarah Roque’s death. We extend our sincere condolences to Sergeant Sarah Roque’s family, friends & loved ones, as well as to the whole community of Fort Leonard Wood.

A devoted soldier, Sergeant Roque received numerous honors and decorations for her heroic service, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
