Allegany College falls to Hagerstown in 5-game thriller

CUMBERLAND — Allegany College lost to Hagerstown in a thrilling five-game series on Monday, losing 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, and 15-12. In the fifth tiebreaker game, the Trojans (13-4) were tied at 12 points each, but Hagerstown won the last three points to win the game. 

Allegany College coach Joe Brewer remarked, “Excellent volleyball match on both sides of the net.” “We played hard and fought to the very end, and I’m proud of that. We had an opportunity to win the point at 12–12 in the fifth, but we failed to convert.

With a double-double that included 31 assists, 14 digs, two aces, four kills, and a block assist, Nailevid Lorenzo-Lopez led the Trojans. Jaci Rowe (Frankfort) recorded eight kills, seven digs, and an ace; Allison Leatherman (Allegany) recorded thirteen digs; Zoey Bottenfield (Bedford) and Avery Tipton (Mountain Ridge) each recorded ten digs; Emmy Wilson (Calvary) contributed twelve kills, a block, three block assists, and two digs; and Sadie Bayko also recorded a double-double with fourteen kills, one block, two block assists, twenty-one digs, and three aces. At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Allegany College will visit Garrett College.
