PITTSBURGH — A number of local runners participated in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday. Anthony Sanders, a graduate of Frankfort, placed second overall for West Virginia Wesleyan in the men’s division. He was the top runner among Mountain East Conference (MEC) athletes with a final timing of 25:31:8.
He was named MEC Runner of the Week for his performance. The top 25 also included two other former Falcons who are currently attending Wesleyan. With a timing of 25:52:8, Evan Pyles came in fifth, and Kent Niland came in twenty-first at 26:45:4. At 28:39:9, Glenville native Caden Davis, a graduate of Hampshire, came in 62nd.
Being victorious
With a timing of 25:07:2, Noah Bernarding of PennWest California became victorious. With 34 points, Carnegie Mellon emerged victorious in the team competition.
Mary Delaney, a current redshirt freshman at West Virginia University and a Mountain Ridge alumnus, placed fourth overall in the women’s 5K cross country competition during her collegiate debut. With a time of 18:36:70, Delaney finished in fourth position.
With 72 points, she was the team leader of the Mountaineers, who came in second overall. Pittsburgh scored 64 to win the team event. Point Park’s Cassondra O’Connor won with a flat time of 18:32.
