A man who vanished in 1999 was discovered 25 years later after his sister spotted a picture of him in an internet article, according to officials, making it a Thanksgiving miracle for one California family.
According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by the man’s older sister to seek money for a medical transfer, the man who has been missing since August 1999 was discovered sitting on a curb in Los Angeles earlier this year.
He simply disappeared without a trace. In the GoFundMe campaign, the man’s sister stated, “Not even his car was ever found.” I had been searching for unidentified remains the entire time. I was thrilled to discover him still alive!
According to a Facebook post from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, the woman had called them on Friday, stating that she thought a man in an internet story was her brother, who had gone missing.
The public was asked to assist in identifying a nonverbal guy who was hospitalized in Lynwood, California, according to an article published in May by USA Today.
Man Got Discovered
Medical officials reported that the man was discovered on April 15 in South Los Angeles. The woman told Deputy Derek Kennemore that her brother was reported missing in 1999 from Doyle, a small California hamlet located roughly 45 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada.
The sheriff’s department has not disclosed the woman’s name in order to maintain family privacy. Since then, she had not heard from him.
When Kennemore called the hospital mentioned in the story, he discovered that the man had been sent to a different institution in Los Angeles in July.
After that, the officer called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Missing Persons Unit, which, according to the release, was able to conclusively identify the hospitalized guy as the same individual who vanished in 1999 by taking his fingerprints.
According to the announcement, “the family will be reunited soon.”
