Cumberland: During Shippensburg’s homecoming event last weekend, Pennsylvania State Police made about a dozen arrests, including one of a 22-year-old man who was hiding an unlawfully modified pistol. Around 1:30 a.m. on October 19, troopers on duty in the borough heard several gunshots close to South Penn Street and Dykeman Road. Two individuals wearing hoodies fled as state police arrived.
Suspects Of The Incident
After a chase, one of the suspects later identified as Shippensburg resident Evan Sipes, 22, was taken into custody. When troopers searched Sipes, they discovered a handgun with many magazines and an obliterated serial number. According to police, Sipes also resisted officers when they were arresting him and made an attempt to flee when they had him. There was no identification or arrest of the other male who fled the scene.
12 Additional Arrests
According to court documents, Sipes, who is accused with carrying a firearm without a license, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, waived his preliminary hearing and will be arraigned on December 30.
During the homecoming weekend, state police made 12 additional arrests, including one for harassment, three drug arrests, three arrests for underage drinking, three arrests for fake identification, one arrest for public drunkenness, and the seizure of an illegally owned firearm during a traffic check.
