CUMBERLAND — With three minutes remaining before halftime, Bishop Walsh, seeking its first City League victory, had a 3-2 lead against Fort Hill. But on Wednesday at Rowan Field, the Sentinels (5-7-1, 2-2 City League) won 6-3 thanks to four goals in a row.
Liam Hamilton scored twice in the second half to give Fort Hill a hat trick. Hamilton had two assists from Lucas Evans and one from Grant McElvie. McElvie opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Hamilton. With an assist from David DiNola, Ofek-Cohen Inbar scored for the Spartans (2-12, 0-4 City League).
With roughly five minutes remaining, Carson Hamelin found Jackson Miller, who then assisted David DiNola to give Bishop Walsh a 3-2 lead. With less than three minutes remaining before halftime, Anthony Palumbo tied the game at three thanks to a John Reinhardt assist.
Following consecutive goals from Hamilton in the second half, Vincent Largent completed the scoring with a Palumbo assist. In goal, Bishop Walsh outshot Fort Hill 14-10 and 27-14.
In corners, the Sentinels had a 4-3 advantage
Minh Lee ended with four saves for Bishop Walsh, while Leland Garcia recorded eleven for Fort Hill.The Sentinels will be the fourth seed in West Region I when they enter the Class 1A playoffs. With 30:05 remaining in the first half, Hayden Whetsel gave Frankfort the lead with a shot that ricocheted off a Bishop Walsh defender. Bishop Walsh equalized for Jackson Miller at 21:48 of the first half with a header off.
On 15 BW shots, nine of which were on target, Alyn Weaver made eight saves for Frankfort. On 19 Frankfort shots, 10 of which were on target, James Maybury made 8 saves. In corner kicks, the Spartans had a 7-3 lead. At this point, Frankfort (12-3-2) is getting ready for the Class AA playoffs. Morgantown Christian will play Bishop Walsh on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
