Fort Hill’s fast start shreds Smithsburg, 61-6; Keyser over Moorefield; Hampshire loses, Petersburg wins

After a safety on the opening play, Fort Hill scored 30 points in the first quarter and defeated Smithsburg 61-6 on Friday night. Carson Bender’s 27-yard carry increased Fort Hill’s lead to 9-0 after Mason Bennett and Christian Riley were in on a safety on the game’s first offensive play. 

The first of eight successful point-after tries was booted by Bobby Brauer. Tristan Ross made it 30-0 after one on an 11-yard rush, and Jabril Daniels added two more on runs of 1 and 15 yards in the first frame. Early in the second, Daniels ran for 53 yards and scored his third and last touchdown of the evening. After just eight carries, the senior tailback finished with 112 yards.

Gamil Daniels and Chase Lamb each returned punts of 57 and 50 yards, respectively, to give the Sentinels their next two scores. Braelyn Younger finished with three carries for 52 yards, including a 40-yard rush to cap off the first-half scoring. The Sentinels scored six offensive touchdowns on 17 plays and led 58-0 at the half. In the third quarter, Brauer made a 22-yard field goal to complete the Fort Hill scoring.

Tyler Ward’s 10-yard pass to Chase Hill in the fourth quarter was the Leopards’ touchdown. The run from two points was stuffed. Ross added 26 yards on two carries and a 3-yard catch from Noah House, who was 2 of 3 for 25 yards, while Jabril Daniels led the offensive charge. Babo Jeremiah brought in a 22 yards.

On defense, House and Keiyn Steinmetz intercepted passes and the Sentinels recovered a fumble. On Saturday at 12:30 p.m., Fort Hill (6-2), riding a three-game winning streak in which it has outscored opponents 169-9, visits Allegany (4-4).

42 Keyser, 35 Moorefield

MOOREFIELD, WV — In the last two minutes, Moorefield came within a yard of winning. The winner was Keyser, four plays later. A Yellow Jacket fumble was recovered by Jake Anderson. Keyser’s Dominik Crawford ran 94 yards for a touchdown following two quarterback sneaks.

Crawford, a rookie, recovered an onside kick, caught a 27-yard pass for a score, and finished with 160 yards on 12 carries. Riley Pillus’ three-yard burst and Oliver Crites’ 15-yard and 1-yard touchdown runs gave Moorefield (3-5) a 21-7 lead in the second quarter. After a 14-yard touchdown run by Mikey Mongold, a Crawford fumble recovery on the deciding kickoff, and an 87-yard kick return for a score by Grayson Lambka, Keyser (4-4) quickly knotted it.

Before Crawford scored the game-winning touchdown, the teams exchanged touchdowns. Cole Holland had a five-yard tote, and Keyser’s Brafford threw a touchdown to Crawford. Crites scored his third touchdown on a five-yard carry, and Moorefield’s Diego Taylor raced for a 25-yard touchdown.

Keyser’s first score came after a 17-yard sprint by Brafford. On Friday, Keyser hosts Mountain Ridge (4-4). Pendleton County is where Moorefield is (6-2).

Washington 38, Hampshire No. 5 21

Charles Town, West Virginia — Number Five Hampshire’s three-game winning streak ended Friday after they were outscored 17-0 after halftime. In the third quarter, Michael Thompson’s 11-yard dash gave Washington (5-3) the lead for good.

Hampshire lost 5–4. Two Patriots, including Thompson, rushed for more than 100 yards. Despite throwing an interception to Colson Kinser, he completed 10 of 15 passes for 97 yards and ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Casey Allen scored two touchdowns and gained 124 yards on 10 attempts. With 14 of 27 passes completed, Hampshire quarterback Landon Eversole gained 272 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. In the second quarter, he completed a pass to Andrew Loy for 64 yards, giving the Trojans a 21–14 lead. The opening score of the game came from Eversole throwing a 20-yard touchdown to Liam Nichols.

In the second period, Roscoe Dean rushed two yards and hit the end zone. Wyatt Swanger hauled in two passes for 62 yards, Vinny Greear made five grabs for 58 yards, Nichols had two receptions for 67 yards, and Loy received two passes for 70 yards. On PATs, Bryson Richardson was 3 for 3.

After a bye the following week, Hampshire will resume play at home against Tucker County (8-0) to round off the season. James Monroe, Petersburg 37 14 PETERSBURG, WV — Petersburg defeated visiting James Monroe on Friday after Payton Metheny tossed for three touchdowns and Kaleb Kuhn recovered an interception 102 yards for another score.

Metheny completed 17 of 33 attempts for 198 yards, including 13-, 24-, and 16-yard touchdowns. He made two interceptions as well. Kuhn’s pick-six secured the victory, and he caught touchdown passes for 13 and 16 yards. He led all Viking receivers with seven grabs for 90 yards.

Alex Mendez kicked a 24-yard field goal, Trace Rohrbaugh scored a five-yard rushing score, and Peyton Tingler had one reception for a 24-yard touchdown. On Friday at 7 p.m., the Vikings (5-3) take on unbeaten Tucker County (8-0).
