FROSTBURG — In a thrilling overtime match on Saturday, the second-ranked Miners defeated No. 1 Northern 3-2, with Kylee Kiddy’s goal in overtime capping the Mountain Ridge comeback. With 1:33 remaining in overtime, Izzy Robison’s corner kick gave the team the lead.
Northern will have home field advantage in the Class 1A West Region I playoffs after losing 11-2-1. after this, they won the Western Maryland Athletic Conference championship with a 6-1-1 record. With its fourth consecutive win, Mountain Ridge increased to 11-2-1 and ends the regular season second in the league (6-2) and regional rankings.
Prior to Kiddy’s victory, the Miners were never in the lead. With 8:18 left in the first half, Fiona Ruddell scored an unassisted goal to tie the score at one. With 22:47 remaining in regulation, Robison helped Rizzo tie the game at 2-2.
Northern’s first goal was scored by Emma Hostetler in the sixth minute after Kaylee Bowser assisted. The Huskies led 2-1 at the half thanks to a goal by McKenzie Upole with 7:19 left. In the end, Mountain Ridge had a 19–8 shooting advantage and a 4–2 corner kick advantage. Taylor Lamberson, the Miners’ goalie, made six saves. Ada White of Northern ended with seven.
No. 3 Allegany 9, Bishop Walsh 1
CUMBERLAND- On Saturday, Allegany easily defeated Bishop Walsh, Myia Miller recorded four assists, and Avery Miller recorded a hat trick. Due to two goals from Avery Miller and one from Myia Miller, the Campers had a 3-1 lead at the break.
Violet Nelson and Miller both had assists. With help from Nila Navarrete, Bar Cohen-Inbar scored for the Spartans. After halftime, Allegany’s goals came from Surce Stewart, Julianna Gallo, Taytum Rush, Avery Miller, Kendall Cristofori, and Elexa Mazuran.
On three of them, Myia Miller provided assistance. Brilynn Beatty made one save and Rachel Wharton made 19 saves for Bishop Walsh. Allegany had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks and a 25-2 advantage in shots.
Saint James 4, Fort Hill 1
HAGERSTOWN — On Thursday, Fort Hill lost to Saint James despite a goal by Allie Hipp off a cross from Sadie Hamilton. At the break, the score was 1-1 thanks to the goal. After halftime, Avery Ndong-Cantave and two goals from Olivia Jackson gave Saint James three goals.
During the first half, Ndong-Cantave also scored a goal. Both teams had four corner kicks and 11 shots at the end. Claire Barnes made ten stops for Saint James, while Jemma Stafford made seven saves for the Sentinels in goals.
“Saint James’ keeper had several great saves that kept us off the board, leaping and using a single hand tipping the ball over the top post or just outside the side post,” Dave Neff, Fort Hill’s head coach, remarked. “The first half was evenly played and back and forth. In the second half, Saint James had more possession control.
