According to one expert, police are using an extremely high bond to keep her husband in jail as they continue their hunt for Suzanne Simpson, a Texas mother of four and luxury real estate agent, who vanished about two weeks ago.
“Simply put, it is quite uncommon for $2 million to be awarded for misdemeanors. And the only reason it would be carried out is because they want to put him behind bars while they investigate and carry out their recovery effort.”
After allegedly battling with her husband of 22 years in Olmos Park, south of San Antonio, Suzanne, 51, vanished on October 6. This week, police searched the area, including a dump. According to Olmos Park police, Brad Simpson was taken into custody in Kendall County on a family violence complaint in connection with the disappearance of his wife.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives placed a federal detainer on him on a firearms charge, which is keeping him in jail despite the $2 million bond that was set for him. According to the document, investigators executed a search order in connection with Simpson’s wife’s disappearance and investigated his home in Olmos Park on October 9.
A family member notified police on October 10 that Simpson had many guns that they wished to turn over. According to documents, the family member took many firearms from a secured room in the Simpson residence and brought them to the Olmos Park Police Department.
The National Firearms Registration and Transfer Records did not contain a short-barreled rifle that was turned up to the police. According to the affidavit, Simpson faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for illegally possessing a short-barreled weapon that is not registered with the federal government.
Brad Simpson’s release from the Bexar County Jail is under federal hold due to this charge. For the Oct. 6 incident, he was first charged with assault inflicting bodily injury, family violence, and unlawful restraint. Brad Simpson was first released from the Kendall County Jail on a $2 million bond, according to jail documents. Later thereafter, he was moved to the Bexar County Jail.
Suzanne Simpson disappears
At a prior press conference, Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas stated that there was a “disturbance” between the Simpsons at the Argyle, a club close to San Antonio, on Sunday night, October 6. Brad has been “uncooperative,” according to Villegas, when police have attempted to question him.
According to the criminal document, Brad moved to his ranch property in Bandera County, Texas, before Suzanne vanished, and seemed to be isolating himself from his family. According to Barton Simpson, Brad called him and expressed regret for all the issues he had caused.
According to the arrest document, a neighbor reported to police that on the evening of October 6, he witnessed Brad and Suzanne physically fighting and then heard screams coming from a nearby wooded area. According to the report, the neighbor noticed that “Ms. Simpson was trying to get away from Mr. Simpson’s grasp as he tried to pull her downwards.”
We believe she was in anguish that night. However, the fact that she is clearly not going to work and is not checking in on her kids raises serious suspicions,” Villegas stated. At 11 p.m. on October 6, Suzanne was last seen in Olmos Park, in the 500 block of East Olmos. She weighs around 140 pounds, has brown hair, and is 5 feet 5 inches tall.
