FROSTBURG: At the Miners Stadium’s Coal Mine, Mountain Ridge has won 28 games in the past five arduous years. When undefeated Frankfort (4-0) travels to Frostburg to play a Mountain Ridge (3-1) team that has defeated it seven times in a row, that run will be added to the test. The much awaited local event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. “The score is 3-1. In all three facets of the game, they are really well-coached,” stated Kevin Whiteman, head coach of Frankfort.
Since 2019, we have been unable to defeat them. The children are enthused. “This game is crucial for both sides. We’re heading into the playoffs with a good outlook. They are engaged in combat for the same goal.” Coming off a defeat, Mountain Ridge takes on Frankfort for the 1st time in ten years. It won’t get any easier tonight for the Miners, who struggled through injuries & uncharacteristic errors in a 28-23 loss at Frederick last Friday.
The Falcons Are Attempting To Make History
Frankfort enters Frostburg having outscored its previous four opponents 180-42, demonstrating that its highly anticipated offensive line plus stable of backs has lived up to the hype from the start of the season. The Falcons are attempting to make history at Miners Stadium by being the 1st visiting team to win since Northern did so on October 18, 2019, with a 33-14 victory.
Mountain Ridge head coach Nathan Shipe remarked, “I think it’s well deserved. They have a lot of confidence over there.” It’s simple to understand why there has been so much excitement about the neighborhood and program. Linemen are double-teaming and finishing blocks.
Backs stopping one another. These are the telltale signs of a successful Wing-T football squad.” The series’ closest victory, 10 points over Mountain Ridge last year, came before the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the Miners have beaten the Falcons, 108-27. Frankfort had no idea who the opposing team’s quarterback would be.
Due to a sprained ligament and bone bruise, Cobe Penick has not been able to play since the 1st half of the match versus Calais. In the game and a half he played, he rushed for one score and completed four passes for touchdowns. Penick has taken part in drills all week, and according to Shipe, he was reassessed on Thursday night as well as Friday morning in order to determine whether and to what degree he can play.
Mountain Ridge Might Need To Add More Players
Carter Clites, a sophomore, is a strong alternative if he is unable to play. He has completed 46 of 70 throws for 546 yards, 5 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Eli Sibley is his best outside weapon; he has caught 22 receptions for 298 yards and eight touchdowns in all. With six interceptions in the previous season, All-Area defensive back Jacob Nething leads Frankfort’s formidable secondary. In 2024, Nething and Keiton Nester each have two thus far.
Several Mountain Ridge players had to depart the Frederick game due to injury. Jay Crawford, a lineman, is the only one who is not eligible. Along with receiver/defensive back Owen McGeady, linebackers Brody Vanmeter & Kaiden Lissau, who double as the team’s left tackle, are anticipated to participate.
The Miners’ home winning streak is most threatened by Frankfort this season, therefore Mountain Ridge may need to add more players. About the streak, Shipe remarked, “We’ve talked about it every day.” “The children wish to keep it safe. We’ll get a strong emotional lift early during the game because it’s Homecoming week. They wish to emerge and defend their territory.”
