A class action lawsuit has been filed against Netflix by users who missed portions of the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul due to frequent freezing and buffering issues.
Netflix, according to a Florida resident, was “woefully ill-prepared” for the nine-figure global audience that watched the fight.
In addition to bringing claims for breach of contract and infringement of Florida statutes pertaining to deceptive trade practices and consumer protection, the complaint asks for unspecified damages on behalf of subscribers who had difficulties seeing the fight.
According to the complaint, which was submitted to a Florida state court on Monday, “Netflix customers experienced massive streaming issues and should have known better because it has happened before.”
With 108 million viewers globally, the fight became the highest watched athletic event on Netflix, which declined to comment, according to first-party data from Netflix and U.S. viewership statistics from analytics firm TVision.
