Ahead of the election, Senate Democrats are focusing some of their final days in session on message related to abortion. According to a statement from her office, Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray intends to visit the Senate floor on Wednesday at approximately 4 p.m. ET to advocate for the passage of a resolution declaring that “every patient has the basic right to emergency health care, including abortion care, regardless of where they live.”
Referred to as a “sense of the Senate,” this kind of resolution would convey the body’s opinion on the matter rather than enacting new legislation.Senate Republicans are poised to stop it. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Senate Democrats will conduct a news conference on Murray’s resolution on Wednesday at noon ET, ahead of this moment on the floor.
Republicans have been complaining to Schumer about not holding a vote on other appropriations measures or the yearly national defense policy bill, which has already cleared the Senate Armed Services Committee. Sen. Susan Collins, the senior Republican appropriator, told reporters, “What Leader Schumer should have done is brought the appropriations bills to the floor.” “In that case, a few of them would have been on the president’s desk right now, or they would have already been signed into law.”
Harris campaign scheduled a Friday visit to the US southern border
According to a person familiar with the talks, Vice President Kamala Harris intends to visit the US-Mexico border on Friday while in Arizona as she attempts to bridge the divide with former President Donald Trump on immigration. In addition to referencing her experience as a US senator and state attorney general for California, a border state, Harris has already traveled to the border in her role as vice president.
A major topic of discussion in the 2024 presidential race has been immigration. After the GOP defeated a bipartisan border package earlier this year, Democrats, who have been dealing with years of border problems, have attempted to turn the tables on the GOP.

According to one of the sources, some Harris campaign staffers are still worried about the polling difference that shows Trump leading on the matter, but they also see a chance to close a perceived gap and try to stop GOP assaults on Harris for not traveling to the border frequently enough.
