Police: A man attacked medical personnel in Carlisle, jumped on automobiles, and hurled salsa at patrons

CARLISLE: Following two violent assault proceedings this week in the Carlisle region, a Carlisle man was denied bail. Dalitso Sakala, 22, was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.

The incident occurred when police were called to the 200 block of East High Street regarding a man who was climbing on cars and breaking glasses. While responding to that incident, Carlisle Police reported that they received a call from Giant on South Spring Garden Street reporting that a guy had broken the entrance door and was hurling objects inside the store.

Culprit brought into custody

When the police came, Sakala was reportedly hurling glass salsa jars at patrons and staff, posing a risk to everyone due to the shattered glass. He was told to halt by the police, but after a violent fight, he was brought into arrest, according to the police.

According to officials, one officer was hurt during the altercation. According to court records, Magisterial District Judge John Hanner arrested Sakala and denied bail in the case, citing concerns about Sakala’s mental health and potential risks to the public, as well as Sakala’s history of fighting with and harming police.

Sakala was charged on Thursday in connection with an incident in South Middleton Township with five charges of felony aggravated assault and one count each of misdemeanor indecent assault, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and summary criminal mischief, according to court documents. In this instance, Hanner once more refused bail, citing Sakala’s assaults on six medical staff members during the incident.
