Police Find Mummified Man on Toilet Amid Search

According to a police report acquired by the East Bay Times, Union City Police officers discovered what they described as a “mummified” guy on the toilet of the house where a 95-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s illness had lived when she vanished in August.

During their search, police said a family member advised them to look at the house where the missing woman had moved two years prior. Police said they found dried-up remains in the bathtub, but they did not find the woman at the house.

“We find people in the restroom quite frequently,” UCPD Sgt. Brandon Hayward told local publication KRON on October 23. “It happens more frequently than you would expect.” The man’s body was probably on the toilet for weeks or months, according to Hayward.

Missing son found dead

According to KRON and KPIX, authorities think he passed away naturally and that there was no foul play. Additionally, they think the deceased man was one of the two sons of the missing wife. According to KPIX, the coroner’s office stated that DNA test results are still pending.

“We treat every suspicious death as a potential homicide from the start,” Lt. Sergio Quintero of the UCPD recently told the East Bay Times. “But that’s not where this investigation is heading, as of right now.”

Responding officers noted in the police report that the house was filthy, had a “noticeable presence” of flies, and smelled bad. A second individual was discovered residing on the property; according to the authorities, he was disheveled and seemed to have some kind of mental disorder.

According to the police report, the second man, who was recognized as a relative of the missing woman, originally refused to let detectives into the house. However, after he was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold, investigators were able to enter. According to KRON, police reported that the missing woman was eventually located safely close to the senior living facility where she currently stays.
