A Prince George’s County judge has found one of two teenagers not guilty of shooting and wounding five other teenagers during a “Senior Skip Day” event in Greenbelt, Maryland in April, 7News learned on Wednesday.
Prosecutors were unable to establish the teen’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, according to defense lawyer Tom Mooney. The gunfire at Schrom Hills Park during the unofficial senior skip day party on April 19 resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old.
Although the accused adolescent in Wednesday’s judgment case was waived back to juvenile court, both teenagers are facing adult charges.
7News is not disclosing his identity since he is a minor. In December, the trial of the other suspected shooter will take place. Officers discovered a group of 500–600 high school students at Schrom Hills Park on April 19.
Injuries Reported
Shots broke out, and more police were sent to help contain the throng. As officers rushed into the scene following the gunshot, 7News was able to collect body cam footage that documented the events.
The gunfire injured five teenagers. After the incident, they were discharged from the hospital. Prosecutors disclosed during a court hearing for one of the teenagers’ bond hearings that the 16-year-old’s arrest resulted in the recovery of three firearms, an unknown quantity of drugs, and a substantial sum of money.
