With a spectacular finish, Scott’s PK leads No. 2 Southern to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Allegany

OAKLAND — The conclusion of Southern and Allegany yielded enough twists for an M. Night Shyamalan film, even after over 77 dull minutes in a persistent downpour. The Rams, dominating possession after Charlie Buchanan’s goal in the 12th minute but clinging to a 1-0 advantage, performed the seemingly unimaginable, allowing an equalizer with the Campers failing to register a shot over the entire second half.

An own goal resulted from a Chris Manherz cross that clipped a Southern defender and flicked into the goal. However, a minute and nine seconds later, an Allegany defender committed a hand ball in the box without a Southern player in sight.

Taste of winning

Tuesday night, No. 2 Southern survived some late-game mayhem to defeat No. 3 Allegany, 2-1, and swept the season series. Tommy Scott buried the shot to the left of a diving Eoin Mowbray.Southern head coach Jon Price once observed, “Once you get the taste of winning, you find ways to win games.”

They have far better organization. They are improving. It is visible to you.In their first meeting, which took place on September 12 in Cumberland, Southern (7-1 overall, 4-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) defeated Allegany (4-4-1 overall, 2-3 WestMAC) by the same score, but this time the Rams went in a completely different direction.

After a close first quarter, with Allegany having the advantage in possession, the latter three quarters of the game were all Southern. On a through ball, Ben Lohr found a streaking Buchanan. With 28:50 remaining in the first half, Mowbray came off his line for one of his four sliding saves of the game, but Buchanan redirected his own miss to give Southern a 1-0 lead.

Allegany appeared demoralized by the score, as they failed to take a shot on goal for the remainder of the match. In the second half, Allegany failed to attempt a shot, on goal or otherwise.”It was probably our worst half of the entire season,” Geatz remarked. Just really out of character things that we’re doing.

Don’t have time to heal the wound

“The one occasion we attempted the philosophy and mishandled the ball, resulting in an own goal,” And when balls are placed inside the box, that occurs.Geatz praised Mowbray’s play and that of right center defender Kohen Madden, who kept Allegany in the game despite a 16–2 shot differential.

The objective is approaching.Only once, on a low attempt from outside the box by Manherz in the first minutes of play, was Southern goalkeeper Jared Haskiell put to the test, and he made the save.Southern returns to the pitch at home against Preston on Saturday at 1 p.m. With a match against No. 5 Fort, the Campers (2-0 City League) won’t have much time to nurse their wounds.

A shared crown is possible when there is a loss.”We must defeat Fort Hill,” Geatz declared. We’re playing for home field advantage at the conclusion of the day. We need to go out and defeat the teams that are now ranked lower than us, such as Northern and Fort Hill. We must defeat the people we ought to.
