In connection with the shooting death of a reputable north suburban endocrinologist over the weekend, a 46-year-old Barrington man has been charged with first-degree murder, according to authorities.
Barrington police said on Tuesday that William R. Zientek had been charged. The event happened on the same block where he lives. In Wheeling on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Olga Duchon, 42, of Vernon Hills, addressed a Ukrainian medical association.
Following the event, her family had planned a celebration. They claimed that Duchon informed them that her first trip would be to speak with her young daughter’s father. She never got back to them.
“Go ahead, ladies,” she said. Hold on to me. I’ll join you when I make a little stop. Yuliya Abushevich, a 20-year family friend, stated, “And she never did.”
Duchon visited a Barrington townhouse located in the 400 block of West Russell Street. On Sunday, police were called to the residence at approximately 5:40 p.m. The bullet had struck Duchon in the chest.
Soon after, she passed away at a neighboring hospital. On Sunday, neighbors reported witnessing a man being arrested. It appears that a child was also taken from the house by the officers.
According to family, Duchon has known Zientek for a number of years.
In November 2021, Duchon filed a McHenry County order of protection against Zientek, but it was revoked a few weeks later. The family of Dr. Duchon now has custody of their daughter.
“Next week is her fourth birthday. We’re getting ready for her birthday together, and I can’t believe she won’t be present.”
Abushevich described her as an amazing mother who educated her above her years by reading to her constantly and taking her to museums.
According to Abushevich, she and Duchon arrived in the US from Ukraine at roughly the same time in the early 2000s.
“Worked multiple jobs, focusing on her medical education, became a doctor here, supporting her family, her mom and dad, as well,” said Abushevich.

According to Dr. Maria Hrycelak, Duchon gave an hour and a half of her time on Sunday even though her speech was only supposed to last about 40 minutes.
“Knowledgeable to the max, I mean she was so interactive with the audience,” remarked Hrycelak. At 4 p.m., she said, they parted ways.
As per Duchon’s pals
According to Duchon’s pals, they are relieved that Zientek is being charged with murder. To help her daughter and pay tribute to Duchon, a GoFundMe has been established.
The public is not in danger, according to Barrington police, who categorized the shooting as a domestic-related incident. Barrington police have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the incident and say the investigation is still ongoing.
They stated that Zientek is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, but they did not clarify if anyone is still being held.
Investigations are also being conducted by the Cook County Major Crimes Task Force.
